Risk factors and outcomes for carbapenem-resistant klebsiella pneumoniae in hematological patients

چکیده

Background Prolonged hospitalization, prolonged neutropenia, and immunosuppressive treatments increase bloodstream infections in hematological patients. Identifying risk factors for carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumonia (CRKP) infection will shed light on controlling the spread of CRKP. Our retrospective study aimed to determine clinical features, antimicrobial susceptibility, mortality patients who developed CRKP followed up cancer Izmir University Economics Haematology Department.
Material Methods 19,170 blood-urine-sputum cultures were delivered from patients, 1,595 (8.31%) which presented growth. comprised 302 (1.57%) such growth cases. The included 72 with malignancy obtained during neutropenic fever period.
Results mean age was 51 (18-75 years). Acute myeloid leukemia most common disease (n: 26, 36.11%). As antibiotic sensitivity CRKP, 44 (61.1%) colistin sensitive, 28 (38.9%) colistin-resistant, 47 (65.3%) tigecycline sensitive/medium sensitivity, 25 (34.7%) resistant, there no statistically significant difference between sensitivities survival.
Conclusions Today, early detection colonization high-risk taking rectal culture, if patient presents or had bacteremia prior hospitalizations, initiation treatment antibiotics acting against NPF would significantly reduce mortality.

Risk Factors for Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Infection and Mortality of Klebsiella pneumoniae Infection

BACKGROUND Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP) is a pathogen commonly causing nosocomial infection. Carbapenem-resistant KP (CRKP) is more resistant to multiple antimicrobial drugs than carbapenem-susceptible KP (CSKP) isolates. The aim of the present study was to identify the risk factors for CRKP infection and the predictors of mortality among KP-infected adult patients. METHODS Patients with CRKP a...

Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in high-risk haematological patients: factors favouring spread, risk factors and outcome of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteremias

BACKGROUND Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) spread and infections in patients with haematological malignancies are a serious concern especially in endemic areas. Treatment failures and delay in appropriate therapy for CRKP infections are frequent and the mortality rate associated with CRKP bacteremia in neutropenic haematological patients is reported about 60%. METHODS Haemat...

Evaluation and Identification of Carbapenem Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Hospitalized Patients in Qom City, (Iran)

Background and Objectives: Klebsiella pneumonia is a facultative anaerobe bacterium from enterobacteriaceae family, which causes a wide range of diseases, such as urinary tract infections, cystitis, pneumonia, surgical wounds infections, infectious endocarditis, and diffused infections, especially in patients with HIV infection and immunosuppression. The aim of this study was to identify carbap...

A retrospective study of risk factors for carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae acquisition among ICU patients.

INTRODUCTION Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) is rapidly emerging as a life-threatening nosocomial infection. In this study, we aim to identify risk factors, especially antibiotic use, for CRKP infection among intensive care unit (ICU) patients. METHODOLOGY This was a matched case-control study of a 67-bed ICU in a tertiary care teaching hospital from 1 January 2011 through 3...

Limiting and controlling carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae

Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) is resistant to almost all antimicrobial agents, is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality, and poses a serious threat to public health. The ongoing worldwide spread of this pathogen emphasizes the need for immediate intervention. This article reviews the global spread and risk factors for CRKP colonization/infection, and provides a...
